Indonesia consists of 17,508 islands of which only 6,000 are inhabited. It extends on both sides of the equator. The four largest islands are Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan and New Guinea (shared with Papua New Guinea). In total there are about 300 people in Indonesia and 742 distinct languages and dialects. The most represented population in Indonesia is the Javanese ethnic group, representing 45% of the population that is politically and culturally dominant. After the Javanese, Sundanese are the Malays and Madurese are the most numerous. Indonesia is a mosaic of peoples and ethnicities which combines Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu and animist. Each at their own pace, from traditional to more frenetic. Indonesia is also a multitude of islands, strung in the middle of the Indian Ocean to the capricious waters. Nature is no exception: in the impenetrable jungles of Sumatra are still evolving tigers, elephants, snakes or orangutans. In Java, volcanic mountains rival extraordinary landscapes. Sulawesi and East Nusa Tenggara islands are outside the norm, who fiercely protect foreign cultures. You will understand, Indonesia, the island with lush vegetation is fascinating. Generous and multicultural.
